Who can enter the Championships?

Eligibility to Compete
To compete at the AMA Championships, an athlete must be a registered member of a masters athletics organisation. Athletes can be from Australia or from overseas. The championships cater for male and female athletes who are aged 30 years or over. Athletes who have a disability are also welcome to compete (additional eligibility requirements may apply*), although there are no separate awards or record categories specific to these individuals.

As is common practice in all other major sporting competitions, Gold, Silver and Bronze medals will be awarded to the respective 1st, 2nd and 3rd placings. The medal designs can be found HERE.

Australian Competitors
Australian entrants must be registered members of a State or Territory Club, and the State approved uniform must be worn by the athlete at all times during the competition.

For information about membership to Australian masters athletics clubs, you can either visit the specific club’s website, or you can follow the links to these clubs on the AMA website. Membership of Athletics NT as a Master Athlete is available for those competitors who live in the Northern Territory.

Overseas Competitors
An overseas athlete may request permission to compete. Proof must be provided that the athlete is a registered member of an overseas masters athletics organisation. An athlete who is competing under these circumstances is not eligible to win an Australian title but can win medals.

Age Groups
The Championships have age groupings that start from 30years and increase in increments of 5years at a time. Medals are awarded in each age group for every event. Your age group is determined by your age on the first day of competition (9 June 2017).

The first three Australians or Australian team members in each event will receive a medal. Masters athletes from other countries may compete and if placed will receive an appropriate medal but in this case, the first three Australians will still receive medals.

*Other Eligibility Requirements
For further information on eligibility refer to the Full Competition Rules.
