2017 Australian Masters Athletics Championships
We wish to highlight a number of key issues for the upcoming – first ever Australian Masters Athletics Championships to be held in the NT over Queen’s Birthday Weekend from 9-12 June here in Darwin, show our team uniform, merchandise and introduce some team members.
Before doing so, we want to again acknowledge the outstanding support of the Northern Territory Government in funding support, that will allow us to upgrade equipment, facilities and provide international officials, who will be also be mentoring our locals to higher levels of qualifications.
We also want to acknowledge the support of Club Tropical Resort, NO MORE Campaign, Life Without Barriers, Thrifty Car Rental Darwin, Territory FM and City of Darwin who are all significant sponsors. We would also like to thank the Darwin City Council Lord Mayor, Katrina Fong Lim for being our event patron.
Thanks also to the SEDA School for the training of their students to act as officials at the Championships. Along with Darwin High School for providing students to act as officials, photographers and construction of event result display boards.
Athletics underpins all sports with running, jumping and throwing so we are very proud to be able to offer an event that will bring all sports and healthy minded Territorians together, in both representing and showcasing the NT.
We want to highlight that the Australian Masters Athletics commences at 30 years of age so we are looking for 30 plus athletes from all sports to join us as mates within our team and represent the NT. Competition is in five year age blocks from 30- 34, 35-39 up to 90+ and relay races cover 4 x 100m and 4 x 400m.
While the Championships will run over the Queen’s Birthday weekend. Registration closes on 1 MAY and NO LATE ENTRIES will be accepted. Registration is online at http://ntmastersathletics.com.au/
Support for new athletes is available in training and Come and Try meets and an NT package that is designed to address all possible questions. This information can be found at http://www.ntathletics.org.au/Masters/News-Upcoming-Events
While we have some outstanding Championships sponsors, more are welcomed. We also invite businesses to join Jayco Darwin, Darwin Family Law and Mature Athletes Darwin in sponsoring block events.
Amongst the legacies we hope to build from this event is an ongoing NT Masters Athletics Championships where all sports will send their athletes for a day of fun and comradery in Darwin every second year and to the Alice Springs Masters Games the other years.
